Tesla cars are being taken out of the French taxi portfolio following an unfortunate mishap last week.
G7, Paris’ leading taxi company, previously had 37 Tesla Model 3’s as part of its fleet. All 37 have been pulled following an accident that resulted in one fatality and 20 additional injuries. Three individuals are in serious condition.
Thus far, evidence does not reveal a technical issue. Regardless, what ensuing is still far from ideal PR for Mr. Elon and Tesla.
It is not clear whether the car was operating under Tesla’s autopilot mode.
If indeed the car was operating under autopilot mode, this reality certainly does not bode well for the future. It doesn’t take Einstein to realize that Tesla is the front runner for self-driving automobiles. It wouldn’t be outlandish to envision a world a decade away where self-driving automobiles are the norm.
Despite what statistics may say about the overall safety of Tesla, the company and Elon Musk will have to justify occasional technological mishaps with their cars to convince the public to truly buy into going completely hands off (no pun intended) in the future.
Between the above developing story and a leaked email from Elon Musk to SpaceX employees weeks ago warning of potential bankruptcy, it has certainly been a rough few weeks for the company and its founder.
